Cage Engage is a new initiative we have developed to reengage young people back into their compulsory education.
This is an 8-week intervention program where we build relationships, establish a routine, address the underlining causes through case work, and providing tangible incentives and skills-based projects to engage in.
Students participate in skills-based projects, mentoring, relationship building, self-worth, and development activities and workshops to assist them re integrating back into school routine.
The Program is a fun and positive environment with tangible incentives. This program can be adapted for behavior intervention, disengagement, or a positive reward program.
The Kills based project is skateboard building. The participants take part in constructing their own skateboards from scratch;
- Glue up and pressing the veneer
- designing their board and creating a template
-cutting out their blank
- shaping and finishing
- applying spray paint artwork
Depending on budgets, full hardware (wheels, trucks etc.) can be supplied to complete the boards in a final build stage.
This program is suitable for both primary and high school ages and can also be adapted for a fun project based holiday program.
The Cage will soon have a public access Job Hub Space fitted out with computers, printers, wifi and Job hunting resources. The Hub will be free to access for anyone motivated to come in and get themselves job ready! We may even have a youth worker available to assist you
We will also be utilizing this space to run short readiness workshops for youth, focusing on the important stuff;
- Obtaining TFN
- Obtaining 100 pts of identification
- Opening bank accounts
- Career pathway planning
- Strategic Resume Writing
- Writing cover letters
- Job Searching methods
- Dress and bearing
- Job interview practice
- Transport planning or commencing the drivers license process
-Discussing job application process from employer perspective, and tips to be successful in the competitive job hunt
These are the basic foundations for gaining employment that we will provide via short 1 week workshops for free.
We have delivered many job readiness programs over the years and what we have taken away from feedback from our participants is the value in learning these core skills, and how they contributed to successfully obtaining employment above and beyond the qualifications and courses they may have previously completed.
